NDP 2009.

its that time of the year again! National Day!

this year's NDP was once again held at the Marina Bay floating platform, set against our very own CBD backdrop. before attending the show, i couldnt help but agree with many others when they said, "its the same thing every year". i mean, i've really seen quite a couple of NDPs and to be honest, it is somewhat similar every year, with some new additions/tweaks made. however, the feedback i had received from those who saw the preview earlier said otherwise...

i had the chance to be there this national day and witnessed one of the most splendid NDP ever! the humor injected into the show was much welcome. there was a flow from the way the parade started, all the way right until the end. of course, there were the usual crowd pleasers like the "red lions free fall/parachute jumps", formal parade march past, F16 bomb bursts, mass dances, fireworks, etc. the difference was how some segments were presented.

this year's parade removed quite abit of the "formalities" and replaced them with more lighthearted moments. the parade was short and sweet, something which should be quite welcomed by the marching contingents (though they have to march a 3.2km city march after leaving the ground, i believe they will choose to be moving rather than standing still while waiting for the choir to sing songs..).

oh yes, i mentioned the flow from "chapter" to "chapter". instead of dividing the show into a couple of segments, this show promised to have a constant flow and boy did they deliver. i especially loved the way the show progressed from the "historical reenactment" to the "bomb threat/terrorist attack scenarios", then leading to the "celebrations by having a parade". a very creative way to bring in the traditional "must-haves" and yet make it seem different.

after the formal parade, the show transformed to a show resembling a musical. songs were aplenty, not just the usual national day songs mind you, but also pop songs that we are all so familiar with. this year's show showcased quite a number of our own local musicians. it was evident that the crowd was enjoying the show, as many sang along. in order to keep things relevant (its national day afterall), video clips of speeches made by key leaders (during challenging times) were injected into several parts of the show. many showed their appreciation for our leaders by putting their hands together to clap after each of these clips were played.

when it was time to sing the national anthem, i was once again overwhelmed by the sense of pride and patriotism in me. it was an awesome feeling that gave me goosebumps, a feeling that words alone cannot describe. this year's pledge taking was made even more special as there was huge publicity on "The Pledge Moment @ 8:22pm". it is a brilliant idea to gather the nation to renew our pledge towards our country together. (though it may seem silly if people were to do that without any live telecast of the show around them)

all in all, i've definitely enjoyed the parade, like i always do!

Commencement 2009!

after all the hard work over the years... its time to celebrate!

the ceremony was held yesterday (11 Jul, Sat).

followed by dinner at villa bali. only realized that i positioned myself too far away after we walked away, so we had another shot at another area! perfect this time! :D

had fun today. truly memorable indeed.

i wanna say a big Thank YOU to everyone who made this possible.

my parents, relatives, friends, lecturers and all.

its going to sound cliche but i'm still going to say i wouldnt have made it this far if not for all of you.

especially those who helped me through the java days (you know who you are, i'll never forget, really) and all who have helped me in one way or another. i truly appreciate the encouragement and unwavering support you guys gave me. it had definitely been three fulfilling years...

now, i still think we havent took enough photos. there wasnt enough time! shall see if the others are interested in having another session...

i woke up this morning, turned on the tv and saw the news.

it was shocking, so much so that i stood there and couldnt believe what i saw.

in fact, my mouth was left open for a few seconds after i saw the piece of news.

my one and only male "ang mo" idol, michael jackson had passed away.

it was just so sudden.

no "entertainment news" have ever affected me this much.

in fact, as i'm typing here, i wish it was all a joke and things didnt happen and he'd still be alive.

he was supposed to return to the stage for a comeback. how can this happen so close to his return?

thank you for the music... may you rest in peace, King of pop...

i got what i wanted!

results released today. i actually managed to sleep through the previous night without giving any thought towards the results, which isnt quite the norm. not that i wasnt worried. though its the final semester, there was still something to "fight for".

i eventually got the honours i aimed for, so i'm happy. :)

anyway, grades are no longer important now. going to start work soon. by soon, i mean the coming monday. nice date. 1st day of the month in fact! :D

the past few days of revision had been total crap.

as i held on to my notes, my mind's focus was not the content of the notes, but rather what my future would be like.

concentration levels dropped to an all time low, as i couldnt really register anything into my brains.

even though things seem to be working out well, i really wonder if i'm making a "right decision". unfortunately, it seems like a case of "you'll never know until you try".

i'm probably finding it hard to step out of my comfort zone, as everything just seems to fall into place so nicely. perhaps that's why i'm reluctant to try out some things.

there is an opportunity cost that comes along with every decision made. but..

i cant put it to words.

alright, very sudden end.

for now, let's just say i hope to find back the focus, and complete this academic race that took up so many years of my life.
